Tripp-Works objects are made in small quantities, so we choose manufacturing processes that fit the object rather than processes intended for high-volume production. We use conventional shop equipment, purpose-built fixtures and tooling, hand operations, bonding, finishing, engraving, and assembly as each design requires. Some processes are precise and repeatable; others intentionally leave room for the small variations that come from individual materials and hands-on work.
We could automate more of what we make. We generally choose not to. Working directly with the parts allows us to make decisions during fabrication, refine details, and give each object the attention that originally made it interesting to us.
Our goal is not handmade for the sake of being handmade. It is to use the most appropriate combination of tools, processes, materials, judgment, and human involvement to make the object well.
